چکیده
This paper deals with the discrimination between suffering foetuses and normal foetuses by means of a multi-scale similarity entropy. Sample entropy and similarity entropy are evaluated in multi-scale analysis on foetal heart rate signals. Without multi-scale analysis, our results show that only the similarity entropy differentiate suffering foetuses to normal foetuses. Furthermore with the multi-scale analysis, our results show that both the sample entropy and the similarity entropy can discriminate the distressed foetuses to normal foetuses. In all cases the similarity entropy outperforms the sample entropy that is encouraging for another biomedical applications.

A New Approach to Detect Congestive Heart Failure Using Symbolic Dynamics Analysis of Electrocardiogram Signal
The aim of this study is to show that the measures derived from Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals many a time perform better than the same measures obtained from heart rate (HR) signals. A comparison was made to investigate how far the nonlinear symbolic dynamics approach helps to characterize the nonlinear properties of ECG signals and HR signals, and thereby discriminate between normal and cong...

متن کاملA multi agent method for cell formation with uncertain situation, based on information theory
This paper assumes the cell formation problem as a distributed decision network. It proposes an approach based on application and extension of information theory concepts, in order to analyze informational complexity in an agent- based system, due to interdependence between agents. Based on this approach, new quantitative concepts and definitions are proposed in order to measure the amount of t...
متن کاملn-Order and maximum fuzzy similarity entropy for discrimination of signals of different complexity: Application to fetal heart rate signals
This paper presents two new concepts for discrimination of signals of different complexity. The first focused initially on solving the problem of setting entropy descriptors by varying the pattern size instead of the tolerance. This led to the search for the optimal pattern size that maximized the similarity entropy. The second paradigm was based on the n-order similarity entropy that encompass...
متن کاملHistogram-Based Description of Local Space-Time Appearance
We introduce a novel local spatio-temporal descriptor intended to model the spatio-temporal behavior of a tracked object of interest in a general manner. The basic idea of the descriptor is the accumulation of histograms of an image function value through time. The histograms are calculated over a regular grid of patches inside the bounding box of the object and normalized to represent empirica...
